Eugene Buddhist Priory Breaks Ground
for Expansion

The Eugene Buddhist Priory broke ground in July for an addition to the organization’s building. Reverend Oswin Hollenbeck presided over the Foundation Blessing on July 22. Since 1990, the group has had permission to expand the building’s square footage according to its conditional use permit, but planning did not begin until last year.

Rev. Oswin says that the three-room, 800-square-foot extension will "provide living space for an additional monk or two, for the occasional long-term lay resident, and/or for short-term solitary retreats by members. It also includes some much-needed storage space. We hope to have at least one room finished by winter."

The priory’s schedule was simplified during the summer to accommodate the construction.

The Eugene Buddhist Priory is a temple of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives, founded by Rev. Master Jiyu-Kennett. Since her death, all the order's temples have equal standing under the international umbrella organization.
