Family Dharma Conference
Seattle, January 22-23
Exploring the ways individual families and multi-generation sanghas can experience the Dharma, the Family Dharma Conference will offer presentations and discussions on Dharma school curriculum, family retreats, parent support, home rituals for and about children, and more.
Jan Chozen Bays Roshi, founder and co-abbot of Great Vow Zen Monastery in Clatskanie, OR, will present the Friday evening keynote address. Bays is not only a beloved teacher of Dharma but also a well-known pediatrician specializing in issues of child welfare. She is the author of Jizo Bodhisattva: Guardian of Children, Women, and Other Voyagers.
The Saturday program includes morning and afternoon panels and discussion sessions as well as presentations by children. Child care—in the form of Dharma activities directed by experienced volunteers from several sanghas—will be provided.

The Family Dharma Conference is co-sponsored by the Northwest Dharma Association and Nalanda West. Northwest Dharma hopes to sponsor additional family events in other locations in the near future.
2010 Annual Meeting: Buddhism & the Body

Mark your calendars for the 2010 Northwest Dharma Association Annual Meeting. The location, which alternates between Seattle and Portland, is in Seattle this year at a venue to be determined.
The theme of this year’s gathering is “Buddhism and the Body”. Come listen and add to a discussion of the body as a support for Dharma practice and Dharma practice as a support for the body.
All are welcome to attend and the event is free as always. Check the NWDA website in the coming weeks for more details.
Northwest Dharma News Goes Quarterly for 2010
In the year ahead, expect to see four rather than six issues of the Northwest Dharma News. The News will appear in early March, June, September, and December.
The decision to go to a quarterly News schedule takes into account the very significant amount of volunteer labor that goes into producing each issue and also offers a small reduction in expenses for a straitened budget. The NWDA board will review the decision at its October 2010 planning meeting and make a recommendation whether to continue quarterly production or return to the bi-monthly schedule for the News.

In November we sent out an electronic message asking for your help in supporting the work of the Northwest Dharma Association. This will be the only form of request we send this year.
For the first time in many years—perhaps in its entire history—the Northwest Dharma Association will not be mailing a holiday season request for donations to members and other supporters.
