Portland Buddhist Festival Wins Cultural Coalition Grant

Portland will celebrate its 7th Annual “Buddhist Festival in the Park” on June 5th, 2010.

This year the Festival will be partially funded by a grant from the Multnomah County Cultural Coalition, a program of the Oregon Cultural Trust. The Coalition’s goals are “to support diverse cultural activities and organizations in Multnomah County, and to increase the likelihood of cultural participation among the broadest possible spectrum of county residents."

The Portland Buddhist Peace Fellowship, major sponsor of the annual festival, will receive the grant. Heidi Enji Hoogstra, longtime active member of both BPF and Dharma Rain Zen Center, will coordinate the event.

As in previous years, the Buddhist Festival will take place in Colonel Summers Park in Southeast Portland. Participating groups will open their booths starting at 11:00 am. Ceremonies, workshops, and talks will be scheduled from noon to 4:00 pm. The activities in the Children's Pavilion are popular throughout the day.

More details will be available in the weeks to come. A full schedule will be posted at www.PortlandBuddhistFestival.com.
