Natural Awareness

Classes, retreats, and individual instruction for beginning and experienced practitioners. George Draffan has trained in the Tibetan and Theravada traditions and was authorized to teach by Ken McLeod, who was trained in the Kagyu and Shangpa lineages. In his teaching George emphasizes awareness of the body as a foundation of mindfulness, essential meditation skills including stability (shamatha) and clarity (vipashyana), and bringing awareness to the habituated patterns that prevent us from being present in life. He encourages students to connect with their own motivation, working with them to clarify their goals and sustain their practice. George has 20 years experience as a researcher and writer for environmental and social change groups. He is a volunteer with the Northwest Dharma Association, where he served as president from 2001 to 2005. Monthly day-long practice, occasional classes and retreats, and one-on-one consultation available.
