The Mindfulness Community of Puget Sound supports the practice and tradition of mindfulness and Buddhist meditation, as exemplified by the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and other Buddhist teachers. Eileen Kiera is our Community Teacher. She was given Dharma transmission and permission to teach by Thich Nhat Hanh. Eileen gives Dharma classes year round at our Seattle Practice Center in South Seattle, and she offers interviews to students who make MCPS their Sangha home.
In addition to regular weekly meditation practice and Dharma study, MCPS offers weekend non-residential retreats in both April and November at Seattle Practice Center, as well as a 4 or 7 day residential retreat at Camp Indianola in January. Our Teacher has a rural residence/retreat center near Bellingham, WA called Mountain Lamp Community, where we hold a second 7 day retreat in mid-summer.
We share and co-own the Seattle Practice Center with the Three Treasures Sangha, which practices in the Zen tradition of Robert Aitken Roshi.
MCPS practice opportunities are open to anyone with a sincere interest in mindfulness meditation practice and our tradition. If you are unfamiliar with Buddhist meditation, we encourage you to attend an Orientation in conjunction with your first visit. Off-schedule Orientation can often be arranged by calling Mike at 206-419-8358.
All events are in English with limited chanting in Pali. Our retreats offer special children's programs for children five years of age and older. The Seattle Practice Center is partially wheel chair accessible.
