Sign-in & refreshments begin at 9:30.

A panel presentation on birth, health and illness, aging and end of life from a Buddhist perspective.  Panelists include:

Beth Coyote, LM, CPM:  Midwife, mother, and poet; recent recipient of the Midwives Assoc. of WA “Women of Wisdom” award.

Alan Marlatt, PhD:  Director of the Addictive Behaviors Research Center at the University of Washington.

Tom Kelly, MA:  HIV/Aids educator, prison volunteer, graduate of Metta Institute’s End of Life practitioner program.

Jeff Schoening, PhD:  Hospice and Palliative Care chaplain for Swedish Visiting Nurse Services; doctorate in Buddhist studies.

Dessert Potluck & Conversation:
Embodied Buddhism: Integrating Mind & Body in Practice

* What are some ways body-based practices help sitting practice?
* What are some differences between yoga, qigong, and other body-based practices?
* What are the relationships and dynamics among body, energy, and awareness?

Join us for an open forum discussion about how our physcial activities can enhance our Buddhist practice (and enjoy some tasty treats!).

As always, the NWDA Annual Gathering is FREE and open to all, both Buddhist and non-Buddhist.

Lunch Available at Sakya Monastery’s 2010 Losar Celebration
We regret that due to kitchen limitations NWDA is unable to provide lunch this year. Delicious Nepalese and Tibetan specialties can be purchased at Sakya Monastery’s Losar Celebration, which will be taking place nearby at St. John the Evangelist Church (123 N. 79th) from 11:00 to 4:00. Other food options are also available in the Greenwood neighborhood.
